A Story from the newest Valley Knight

by Doug "Doogie" Hodges

It all started out simple enough, a ride up to Daffodil hill which started out with a " Bike Fluff".

After leaving my place ( And spending an hour trying to find the meeting place.) I finally met up with the guys of the VKMC. After B.S.ing for a couple of hors and getting to know some of the members, we headed out. The ride was great .........At least it was until after the lunch break.

After the lunch break most of the members decided to head back to Sacramento for various reasons, the one exception being the Road captain (Gerard). He decided he was going to press on and make the destination. After being asked if I would like to follow , I said "Yeah....I ain't got nothin better to do." So we proceeded on.

We had a blast, barn storming the narrow roads of the foothills. We did stop at Daffodil hill, (Where a slight motorcycle mishap occurred.) But it was closed due to the earlier rains.

I noticed a strange knocking noise coming from the engine of my motorcycle, on our return trip to Sacramento. It was about that time when I also noticed a bad loss of power and that the oil light was coming on. After stopping for an oil level check and allowing the engine to cool, I agreed to try to complete the ride. A bad Idea ,as my engine completely seized 10 miles up the road.

Immediately Gerard called for help, and sure enough another club member (Mike, the Club’s Historian) arrived in his old Chevy pickup. The 2 promptly loaded my bike in the back of the truck and then gave me a ride home. 100 miles out of their way. They also expected nothing in return. It was at that time that I realized what the VKMC and it's members stood for, and I wanted to learn how to become a member.
